Other information storage units that work on your personal computer are the USB flash drives. These portable wonder are even smaller than the old school floppy disks, but can hold onto them up to 256 GB of information. They consist of a USB plug that connects to the computer and the actual storage room. They are compatible with many systems and can be used by more devices, not much like the CDs, DVDs and other. Year by year, they become more professional and are more able to complete a lot of duties. The prices for these are very small, everyone having a small flash drive memory attached to their key ring. We have all used them for school, work and entertainment, CDs and DVDs being the most popular alternative storage spaces besides HDDs. These small units are actually simple plastic pieces on which there is data written on them magnetically. These storage spaces are usually for one writing activity only, but you can find re-writable ones as well. In the past few years, the appearance of the Blu-Ray disk makes storage even simpler, this type of disk holding up to 25GB on one layer and there are some that have two layers so they hold 50GB of data. Portable and always evolving, this type of storage will not be a thing of the past too soon.
